Why Better Care?

At Better Care, we believe quality mental health support starts with clear boundaries and consistent practice. Our team shows up calm, reliable, and grounded so participants feel safe and know what to expect in the therapeutic relationship.

This approach is shaped by the leadership of our Director, Luke Gunter, whose extensive experience in Justice Health, emergency departments, and mental health inpatient wards guides our commitment to structure, professionalism, and trauma‑aware care.

Under Luke’s direction, our workers maintain healthy boundaries, follow predictable routines, and use evidence‑based strategies that help participants regulate, build independence, and work toward their recovery goals. This consistency builds trust and creates the stability people need to thrive.

What Is Better Care?

Better Care Community Support Services is a trusted registered NDIS provider offering person-centred disability and mental health support across Newcastle and the Hunter region. Our mission is to walk alongside participants with consistency and dignity.

We understand that quality support is not just about ticking boxes. It is about helping people feel safe, seen, and supported in their everyday lives. That is why our team includes experienced support workers, mental health support workers, social workers and registered nurses who bring compassion, professionalism, and lived understanding to every shift.

What makes us different is how much we value genuine community. Every week we host relaxed BBQs where participants, families, and staff can share a meal and spend time together. These catch‑ups help people feel connected, included, and part of something bigger. It’s a simple idea, but it makes a real difference in how supported people feel.

Mental Health Support That Feels Human

Mental health care is central to our work. We provide tailored psychosocial support that helps participants build confidence, stability, and practical coping strategies. Our team offers calm, consistent support for people navigating anxiety, trauma, or complex mental health needs.

Our support workers assist with emotional regulation, routines, community access, and recovery‑focused goals, using trauma‑aware approaches and clinician‑recommended strategies. We work closely with families, clinicians, and other providers to ensure care is coordinated and respectful. Regular team meetings, case discussions, and ongoing staff development help us maintain safe, ethical, person‑centred support aligned with NDIS Practice Standards.

Disability Support That Builds Independence

Alongside mental health care, Better Care offers a full range of NDIS disability support services. Every service is tailored to the individual and designed to build independence, strengthen everyday routines, and support meaningful goals at each person’s pace.

We also offer specialised programs such as Better Cuts, a purpose-driven lawn and garden service where participants learn real skills while contributing to their community. Better Housing helps people find safe, stable, and supportive living options that match their needs and goals.

Supported Independent Living That Feels Like Home

Our Supported Independent Living services are designed to help participants live with greater independence while still receiving the daily support they need. We create home environments that feel calm, safe, and predictable, which is especially important for people with mental health challenges or complex support needs.

Participants receive assistance with their daily needs and community access. More importantly, they receive support from a team that understands the value of routine, emotional safety, and respectful communication. Our SIL homes are built around comfort, choice, and the individual goals of each resident.

A Commitment to Quality Support

Better Care Community Support Services is committed to delivering support that goes beyond basic service provision. By focusing on consistency, professionalism, and genuine care, we aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we support.
